Whitney Houston and Dana Bash

Whitney Elizabeth Houston is a singer from Newark, New Jersey on the 9th August 1963. Their parents include gospel superstars Cissy Houston(n e Emily Lee Drinkard), and John Russell Houston Jr. Whitney's cousin Dionne warwick is also a singer. When she was a little girl, Houston started performing professionally in the choir of her church. She was a backing vocalist for Chaka Khosns 1978 single Im Every Woman with her mother. Jermaine, her mother and Lou Rawls were a few of those who she sang with. The singer was also a model for Seventeen Magazine in 1981. Her first gig was as a lead vocalist for the The New York-based New York Funk band Material. Her vocal quality work attracted attention from major record label Arista who signed her in 1983. Whitney Houston, her debut album released in 1985, was the top-selling album of the debut artist. Her album featured several hits including How Will I know You Give Good Love, Saving All My Love For you and The Greatest Love of All. It helped her achieve seven US chart-topping singles consecutively and was more than the Beatles. The album was sold to three million people in its first year, as well as 25 million around the world. The album won her first six Grammys. The Whitney album released in 1987 featuring the tracks that I Wanna Dance With Somebody and Where Do Broken Hearts Get to continue her popularity. It was The Bodyguard of 1992 that made her one of the most successful performers in the history of music. The Bodyguard's performance as a film and its soundtrack were not well-received however, the Dolly Parton cover I Will Always Love You and the album accompanying it were top of the charts across the world for months. Also in 1993 that she was married to Bobby Brown, an ex-New Edition singer with whom she bore the sole child of her marriage, Bobbi Kristina Brown. It was around this time and, at the time of her death in 1996, she'd become a regular user.
