Queen Latifah

Dana Elaine Owens also known as Queen Latifah, an American musician and rapper. Queen Latifah's career in television and music has earned her an Golden Globe award two Screen Actors Guild Awards two Image Awards a Grammy Award six additional Grammy nominations, an Emmy Award nomination and an Academy Award nomination. Queen Latifah grew up in Newark, NJ. Her parents are Rita Owens, Sr. and Lancelot Owens Jr. Latifah's parents divorced at the age of 10 years old. Latifah was raised in the Baptist congregation and went to Catholic school within Newark New Jersey. Latifah means gentle and very generous. Her mother gave it to her when she was 8. Latifah is a very tall girl of 5'10 inches who played part of the high school basketball team. She sang the song Home from The Wiz at a performance in high school. Latifah was a beatboxer in The Ladies Fresh rap band. Latifah was among those who were part of the first version of the Flavor Unit which at that the time was comprised composed of MCs and producers led by DJ Mark the 45 King. Mark James aka DJ Mark the 45 King made an audition recording of Queen Latifah's song Princess of the Posse. The song was recorded and given to Yo! MTV Raps Freddy. Dante Ross of Tommy Boy Music who was working for Latifah during that time was awed by her song. The song was released in 1988. Wrath of My Madness as Latifah's debut single.
